How the Act Boss Ladder Works
Hero Siege’s story campaign is a corridor of nine acts, and every act ends the same way: a boss fight that tests whether your build is ready for what the act taught. Act bosses are progression gates, not farming targets — their real job is to force you to learn the game’s core verbs (dodging, kiting, burst windows) before the endgame assumes you know them.
With Season 10’s Ebontharn update the ladder runs Acts 1 through 9, from the game’s opening zones to the new Act 9, whose final boss — a massive Cthulhu-style encounter that has become the season’s signature fight — closes the campaign. Community runs of all nine act bosses on Inferno (such as Jcob the Casual Gamer’s Bard showcase) are the best quick reference for what each check looks like at the top difficulty.

What Each Act Asks of You
The nine fights are best understood as a curriculum — each teaches something the next difficulty assumes:
| Phase | Acts | What the boss checks |
|---|---|---|
| Tutorial tier | Acts 1–3 | Core movement: dodging telegraphs, kiting melee swarms, using your skill rotation under pressure |
| Mid-campaign | Acts 4–6 | Build coherence: your talents and gear must form an actual build, not a pile of upgrades |
| Late campaign | Acts 7–8 | Survival discipline: sustained area denial and multi-phase endurance |
| The new wall | Act 9 | Everything above, at Season 10’s tuned ceiling — the Cthulhu-style final is widely treated as the campaign’s real exam |
Exact boss names, health pools and drop tables are deliberately not listed here as fixed facts — they have been retuned across patches and seasons, and Season 10’s launch wave of 7.0.x hotfixes is still moving numbers. Verify in-game; this page flags the structure, not stale stats.
Preparing for an Act Boss Fight
The same four-step check works for every act gate, on every difficulty:
- Re-read your build, not your gear score. Does your talent allocation have an answer for single-target damage? Act bosses are where “clears packs fine” builds hit their first wall. Our starter builds page keeps leveling builds boss-capable.
- Top up consumables. Death to a campaign boss costs progress momentum; cheap consumables buy clean retries.
- Fix the obvious gear gaps first. A weapon several tiers behind your level is the most common cause of act-boss stalls — check the market before grinding. See the market guide.
- Learn phase one before burning resources. Most act bosses have one pattern that deletes careless players. Die once on purpose if you must — map the pattern, then win.
Act Bosses by Difficulty: Where the Real Checks Live
The same nine fights repeat across Normal, Nightmare, Hell and Inferno, and the campaign’s relationship to endgame changes with each run:
- Normal: the learning run. Bosses teach patterns; deaths cost little.
- Nightmare: the first tuning wall, reworked in Season 10 — expect the mid acts to demand a real build.
- Hell: where loot quality jumps and boss damage starts punishing positioning errors seriously.
- Inferno: the exam. Clearing all nine act bosses on Inferno is the classic “campaign complete” milestone, and a natural bridge into wormhole pushing and the Uber tier.
Act 9’s final boss deserves special mention: the season’s flagship Cthulhu-style encounter is an Inferno-tier spectacle in its own right, with community first-kill clips (like this Pyromancer clear on Hell 5) showing the fight’s scale.

Common Mistakes
- Farming campaign bosses for loot. They are gates, not farms — endgame systems outscale them the moment you reach level 100.
- Skipping the difficulty push. Each difficulty’s act bosses are calibrated for your power at that stage; over-leveling past the content makes later checks harder by delaying gear progression.
- Ignoring the Season 10 changes. Act 9, the Nightmare rework and hotfix tuning mean act-boss guides from earlier seasons describe a different game.
FAQ
Which act boss is the hardest? For current players, Act 9’s finale — the Cthulhu-style encounter — is the consensus answer, with late Act 7–8 fights close behind on Inferno.
Can you skip acts or bosses? No. The acts are linear; each boss must be cleared to progress the campaign on that difficulty.
Do act bosses respawn for refarming? Completed acts can be revisited on the difficulties you have unlocked, but campaign refarming is not a serious loot strategy — see the gold farming guide for what actually pays.
What should I do right after the campaign? Hit level 100, open the Incarnation Tree, and start your endgame loop — the beginner guide’s first-week plan covers the transition.
